Claim Your Place

Claim Your Place, was the research and development phase that later gave rise to CLAIM YOUR PLACE I+P a piece comprised of three works: a video installation, a performance, and a photographic exhibition directed by Nuria Legarda, which had a period of R+D and the collaboration of Laia Cabrera, with the aim of exploring a variety of languages, both cinematic and scenic.

Claim Your Place thematically ventures into challenging depths of violence though in doing so, searches for beauty. It reflects on how human beings relate to violence, to what extent violence is accepted in oneself and society, as well as its evolution throughout history.

The work explores the dialogue between architecture/landscape and movement; the body conceived of as a territory that contains a history of social practices within it.

This research project was granted the support of various Catalan institutions such as Ca l’Estruch fàbrica de creació de les Arts en Viu, Sabadell Institut Ramon Llull Catalunya, as well as the support from the Consulate General of Spain in New York, and the Consell Nacional de Culture and Arts, New York. It was also selected by NU2’s in Catalonia, Topia Art Center USA, which supported two creative residency periods, allowing the material to be conceived through several stages and in various locations: New York, Massachusetts, Barcelona and Celra (Catalonia).

The results of the Claim Your Place R&D period were shared in a work in progress, at the Spanish Center in New York, for which Isabelle Duverger (NY-PARIS) collaborated as a photographer, Erica Glyn (NY), Nana Simopoulos (NY) as musicians and Caryn Heilman (NY), and Café Da Silva (NY) as performers.

The audiovisual material of Claim Your Place took on a new form when it was shared in Tournefeuille (FR) at the festival ‘Les Nuits Euphoriques’ within the framework of the Euroregion research project (2010-2012) lead by Magalí Milian and Romuald Luydlin, choreographers of La Zampa, Moebius and Nuria Legarda director of N_naranja, was presented as an audiovisual experience in an unconventional outdoor space, featured large-scale projection, and enjoyed the collaboration of the Moebius Cie. photographed by Loran Chourrau .
