DARK BEAUTY, A LOVE STORY 2012 Photography

SYNOPSIS

The project displays bodies of women surrendering themselves to love; sophisticated women who in their striving for perfection find themselves in a zone between life and inertia, between human and mannequin.

How far do we surrender and lose ourselves?
How far do we stop being ourselves for love?
To what extent will another person possess you? To what extent will we allow that?
How far will surrendering bring us to say: do with my body whatever you want? How far do you believe you could say: do whatever you want with me?

1st Stage
A photographic exhibition created by capturing images projected onto various materials and texture to then create a new image enriched with internal volume and texture, strengthening the symbolic content and dramatic intention through fragmentation and overlap.

“Most people see the problem of love primarily as that of being loved, rather than that of loving, of one’s capacity to love.” Erich Fromm

“The true contradiction of modern life does not take place, therefore, between the public and the private side of individuals-citizens but rather between their self-sufficiency and their dependency.”
Marina Garcés

2nd Stage – (pending)
An interactive photography exhibition project that will develop ideas conceived from a narrative concept. Walking through the exhibition, installations will reveal their story, like a comic book of “Choose Your Own Adventure”.
Dark Beauty proposes a fictional love story between the audience and the main character, which makes up the question of the relationship between the audience and the piece.

This project reflects on the impossibility of our struggle with ourselves. The surrendering to love which Marina Garcés alludes to in which the difficulty of emancipation is not to do with conquering sovereignty, but rather the capacity to involve yourself in a common world. She also discusses the idea of western modernity as a story built on a bloody and ambitious history, in constant creation and destruction.
